Matthew 1:18 ff
“The birth of Jesus, the Messiah, was like this: Mary, his mother, was engaged to Joseph and before he had had sexual relations with her, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her betrothed, was a just man and did not want for her to become an object of public scorn, and he said in his heart, I will send her away in private. He was thinking thusly, and behold, a messenger of ‘YHWH’ appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid from taking Mary as your wife, because that which is conceived within her is from the Holy Spirit, and she will bring forth a son and you shall call his name ‘Yeshua’ because he will save (‘yoshiah’) his people from their sins, and all of this fulfilled that which ‘YHWH’ said by the prophets, saying, Behold, a young woman shall conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call his name ‘Imannuel’ which, being interpreted, is God with us. And Joseph raised up from his sleep and did as he was commanded by the messenger of ‘YHWH’ and took unto himself his wife. And he did not have sexual relations with her until after she had given birth to her firstborn son, and he called his name ‘Yeshua’.” - posted: February 22 2004

Matthew 16:19
Matthew 16:19 is a passage that is frequently mistranslated in many of the English translations of the biblical text and, therefore, misunderstood and miss-applied. As mistranslated, it reads: “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: And whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” - posted: February 16 2004

Matthew 7:12
“Therefore, all that you desire that men should do to you, you do also to them, because this is the Torah and the prophets.” - posted: February 09 2004

Matthew 6:9 ff
If the Lord’s Prayer recorded in Matthew 6:9 ff is not the best known passage of scripture in the New Testament, it certainly ranks up there with the best known. In our book, Understanding The Difficult Words of Jesus, David Biven and I pointed out on page 46 two rabbinical parallels to the Lord’s Prayer to which I wish to call your attention in the Passages in Translation for this week. - posted: January 31 2004

I Peter 3:15
I Peter 3:15 says, in the King James version of the Bible, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” - posted: January 27 2004
