Dear Dr. Blizzard;
I am taking a course at local Christian college on Biblical languages, and we are using a book from the Mickelsens entitled Understanding Scripture. On page 19 of the book, they refer to Matt. 9:16-17 and state that, "..the gospel of the new life in Christ, is the "new wine" that must not be poured in the old wineskins of Judaism, paganism, and secularism." In the next paragraph the continues and state, "but the new order that Christ came to bring often runs counter to the pattern of today's world and of ancient Judaism, and may seem almost incomprehensible to us."
As a Messianic Jew, I find these remarks anti-Semitic, and I do not feel that this is the correct exegetical interpretation of the verses. Can I get a better interpretation from you so that I can counter them to my instructor?
Thank you. Joe
