Question:
What is the sin of Moses In Deut. 32:51 that refers back to Numbers 20:8-13? I have heard different opinions of this, and would appreciate what you see in the act of striking the rock twice vs. speaking to the rock. Jeanne
Answer:
Dear Jeanne,
The answer would appear to be
1. Disobedience – God had told him specifically what to do.
2. Pride – he thought that he knew as much or more about it than God did.

It is a puzzling passage, but I think disobedience in a simple act of weakness is probably as good an answer as any.

Best wishes,

Roy
